It is a new idea, because before only taxi drivers and public transportation was available. It is new for everybody, because now it is implemented everywhere on earth. Now, it has been on the market for 10 years, but it is still considered new in some countries, because it became available worldwide only a few years ago.

What type of innovation?

It is a radical innovation, because they used an existing idea of comfortable car service, but they implemented it in a way, which is a lot more safe for users, because they can rate other users and the payment happens online. Furthermore, they use a lot of outside sources, because they use the cars of the public, so there is not much investment needed for this idea.


What can you find about the background of the innovation? Who was the innovator? Story of the innovation? 

The two innovators were Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick. They invented the technology in 2009 in California, US. This service includes shared ride service and food delivery as well. They use a dynamic pricing model, which means that the prices of the rides vary depending on the supply and the demand for the ride at the time when it is requested. It has been quite influential for tourism, because budget travellers can enjoy it. Today, they have upgraded their services, and users can choose from shared rides until luxury rides. Also, on the app they allowed users to share their gradings for drivers and users, so when something inconvenient happens, other users will know about it as well, which gives a huge safety factor to users.
